Welcome back. I'm busy doing my homeschool planning for next year but I'll be here occasionally keeping you updated. You may find just what you came for and if you don't, then keep checking back!

A dear friend gave my one-and-only girl this vintage child’s furniture piece.  She knew how desperately I wanted to have a play kitchen for my girl, and so she suggested that I turn it into a play kitchen.  Isn’t she a good friend?  I’ll think I’ll keep her.

After painting it to match the room we stocked it full of Haba wooden play food and IKEA dishes along with some other odds and ends we picked up throughout the year.

I can’t think of a day that goes by without her playing with this kitchen.  Her little brother is fond of it too! Her older brother even created and laminated some menus for her.  (how sweet, right?)

It doesn’t take the place of real cooking and baking with the children, but instead it adds to their imaginative play.

What things do you have around your house that encourages your children to use their imagination?

Very sweet!

I find that my kids will take anything, and I mean anything, and give it new life by pretending they are people or characters from books or movies, or other creatures.

They love molding with clay, carving faces and hair out of blobs that they have set on top of playdough containers; and even once took a whole box of popsicle sticks and drew faces on them and glued them together into elaborate bodies.

They basically need each other and not much else to use their imaginations. And I love that. :-)

I don’t let my boys have or play with toy guns but it seems that their imaginations know no bounds when it comes to shooting games- they can take anything- really anything and turn it into a gun. A wooden stick, a toy dolphin, lego, fingers, a piece of wooden train track. There is nothing else they imagine as well as the one thing I don’t want them to imagine!

So cool! My daughter would go crazy over laminated menus! She’s always making her own.

Oh yes, Karen. I know this ALL to well!

Oh man! This is so cute! We totally need to make some laminated menus — my kids would go crazy for that.

Laminated menus are so fun and educational- they can cut out pictures of food they like from magazines or those free pizza flyers that come through the door and stick them on with or without text, prices etc. Can’t wait until my girl’s here- I’m wishing her life away and she’s not born yet! The boys would find a way to make them into weapons- OK, so they’re not that bad, they did have fun making some but after that -not interested.

Oh I love play kitchens! My kids never get enough of it. Well, my older ones did once I let them cook and back for real. My son is 10 and makes the best pancakes!

I love so many toys for imagination like Legos, Play-doh, craft supplies, and playmobils.
